The 12th Annual Charleston Dragon Boat Festival took place on the banks of the Ashley River this past Saturday, May 4th, 2019. Fifty-seven teams participated in one of the country's largest dragon boat festivals which benefits cancer survivors. The proceeds will allow cancer survivors to not only participate in other dragon boat events around the country but also internationally. It also allows them to attend other physical and mental activities that help in support and recovery of cancer.
The Charleston festival was not only a fierce competition but also a huge event with music, dancing, food trucks and family fun. Paddlers dressed in colorful costumes and decorated their tents in streamers, balloons and various other themed items.
This year's fundraising goal of $150,000 was surpassed by generous donors raising a total of $173,078. For the third year in a row, Keller Interiors, a.k.a, team Carpet Diem came in first in donations with a total of $27,711. Over 70 employees and their family members attended from Keller Interiors 30 locations throughout the U.S.
Keller Interiors has been personally touched by cancer and hold this event and fundraising efforts dear to their heart. In the words of Dragon Boat Charleston Executive Director, Amy Brennan, “We are all inspired by survivors and we come together understanding this common thread among us.”
